Every DJ booked here comes with sound and lighting. A standard DJ package covers a professional sound system for up to 100 to 150 guests, basic lighting and a microphone. Bigger rooms, bigger guest lists and a full dance floor show need a larger rig, which the quote spells out. This page explains what size you need, so you can compare quotes properly.
Price: a DJ with their own sound system for up to 100 to 150 guests usually costs SGD 500 to 1,000 for a 3 to 4 hour event. A premium DJ with a premium sound system, a professional lighting rig and visual effects for 200 guests or more usually costs SGD 2,500 to 5,000 or more. See how much a DJ costs in Singapore.
Speakers by guest count
| Guests | Usual sound setup |
|---|---|
| Under 150 | One pair of powered speakers and one subwoofer |
| 200 to 300 | A second pair of speakers or a delay stack further back, so the back tables hear clearly and the front tables are not blasted |
| Over 300 | A premium system with full production, planned with the venue |
Speaker size is where quotes really differ. A small setup in a big ballroom sounds thin at the back. Too much power in a small function room drowns conversation. Always tell us the room name and the guest count, not just the venue.
Lighting
For a small room, uplighting on the walls and a modest dance floor rig set the mood. For a larger ballroom, moving head lights on a truss turn the after-party into a proper dance floor. LED lights, haze and other visual effects belong to the premium tier for big celebrations and launches.
Microphones
Budget at least two wireless microphones: one for the speeches or vows and a spare. A dead battery in the middle of a toast is a common failure, and an easy one to avoid. At a wedding, the DJ also checks the mic levels so the vows can be heard over the room.
The sound check
Hotel ballrooms usually ask for a sound check in the afternoon before the doors open. Book it in writing with the DJ. In 30 minutes the DJ tests the speakers, the mics and the cues, and works out where the power points and the house sound tie-ins are. Skipping the sound check is the most expensive mistake people make. It causes late cues, dinner music that is too loud and mics that cut out.
Venue limits
Some venues cap the volume in the banquet contract, especially when other events or guest rooms are nearby. Outdoor venues, rooftops and gardens often stop amplified music at 10pm or 11pm. Pass these limits to the DJ before the event so the setup fits.
